Are you shook up, are you nervous?

Do I make you nervous?

Don't be because we have little left to go on the downside. After that, it is all blue skies for a while.

Post expiration adjustment followed by a rally

Nervous, in this market, with you and Sol posting and responding to our questions? No. Thank you once again.

If there was a way to receive the posts immediately, it would be great. My alerts get to me more than an hour after posts go on the blog. So I'm having to keep clicking to refresh the blog, quite frequently. Any ideas to resolve this would be great.

Once again, way to go guys and, thanks!

We have to ask others.

This is becoming an important issue for us too.

Is there a software or tool to receive instant alerts when blog is updated.

Or is there a RSS reader that automatically checks the blog's RSS and alerts the user when something is posted?

I subscribed to the rss feed. But still takes that long. Any advice from others on the board would be great.

Another forum uses a chat room concept. This way a post is read right away and if also posted on the blog, gets logged in and archived as you've been doing. The key becomes for Sol and Atilla not to be the aim of most of the communication in the chat room, but rather to post there when they have time or need to.

I'm very happy through with blog posts only, as long as we can figure how they can be pushed out immediately.

Just my 2 cents.

Other ideas?

You guys are the best, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Atilla, you are simply amazing. And yes, I am shook up, and looking forward to those blue skies ... not so much for myself, because I have been out of the market for a while, but for others, close friends, who got caught in the market and lost.

There are RSS readers that reads the source periodically, say every 5 seconds. When a new message arrives, it alerts the user, like a sound alert or pop up message.

This way you will get the posts with a few seconds delay. I dont remember the name of the reader but they are available.

here it is

http://www.download.com/Tristana-RSS-Reader/3000-9227_4-10265297.html?cdlPid=10750528

download this,

go to preferences under view

check sound alarm and set "check topics every" option to 1 minute

this way, maximum delay between my posts and your awareness will be 1 minute

"blue skies for a while". How long do you estimate for a while is? 6 to 8 weeks or more till year end? Also, what happens when companies start coming out with missed earnings this season and start guiding lower going forward?

About the RSS feeds: I think why some are having slow updates despite "refreshing" is that their readers are tied to a service such as newsgator/google reader/my yahoo/etc, and those feeds can be quite slow compared to the regular (atom) feed that admin just linked to above...

Also, I'd be curious to hear anybody who has a success story with email/IM/whatever alerts instead of a program refreshing quickly :)

worked?

You guys aren't making me nervous, I appreciate the blog. This site, however, is verging on making me nuts: http://www.urbansurvival.com/week.htm (it is a financial site).

Do you guys think gold will start slipping, or will this rally happen even with gold going up and the dollar falling?

admin said...

Gold is about to put a ST top... probably tomorrow

Crude oil too

You guys tried the RSS software? worked?

Sol/Atilla - I have used RSSOwl & Sage (extension for firefox) to check the RSS Feed every 1 minute.

RSSOwl:
http://www.rssowl.org/

Sage Too:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7263

My preference is Sage Too as it has an option to show only new items & it loads the RSS post in a firefox tab.

Do you guys do anything with commodity spreads? I watched some of the action in the Oct/Nov Crude Oil today and there may be some good opportunities for contracts that are going off the board soon.

Regards,
Eric

admin said...

No I dont trade spreads, too scientific for me.

In my opinion, Crude spiked today because of the expiration , I believe it will sell off tomorrow. I will post crude and gold charts in a while.

No issues with RSS here, atom feeds you posted work just fine with a fast refresh. However, no luck so far finding a suitable "alert" service...

admin said...

tristana didnt work?

it checks every minute and alerts you when a new message posted.....

sound alert and pop up

bubb said...

Lol my quick reply should explain itself, but no, what I meant was that I cannot find anything like an IM alert service.

The sound/alert from my reader works just fine for me.
I cannot say anything about Tristana specifically since I don't use windows.

Eric said...

I agree.....some people made a lot of money based off of people needing to get out of the Oct crude oil contract as they had no intention of delivering on it.

Hope those RSS readers work well for people.

The so-called 'real time' alerts from yahoo appear to be several hours late & I would avoid them. The RSS readers seem to be running next to real-time based on the blog time stamps.

Regards,
Eric

lol

I will remove them from the site today

----------------------

unless you use a mac it is not so useful: http://www.vienna-rss.org/vienna2.php

(for those looking for a mac solution: install that app, edit the plist file for fast refresh, and install/setup growl for alerts as you please)

thanks bubb

"Crude spiked today because of the expiration

Yeah. Some suckers got squeezed real hard today by producers cuz the suckers couldn't take delivery. Front month didn't move as much. Crude is going down because of the coming depression. I am not too sure about gold though. It does well in deflationary collapses.

ARAK said...

tristana is the best in terms of how fast one receives RSS updates.

sahmtrader said...

My Tristana didn't work but I think it's because I couldn't figure out what to do after selecting the preferences. Any additional steps/directions would be highly appreciated

Got it! Testing.
